Martin McGuinness would cheer on the six county soccer side at Windsor

    McGuinness: I

In terms of unionist outreach, Martin McGuinness has stated he would go to Windsor Park to see the six county international soccer team.

First Peter Robinson going to GAA and now this, it feels as though outreach is developing. Both men are to be commended for statesmanshiplike behaviour. They understand that First Ministers is not a party position, they are First Ministers for all the people. Last year, Sinn Fein Culture Minister Caral Ni Chuilin became the first high-profile member to go to a match at Windsor.

I don't see it as statesmanlike for someone from Northern Ireland to go to a Northern Ireland match. If he wants to attend, let him. If he doesn't, he'll not be missed. When Ni Chuillin went she arrived late, left early and missed all our goals. The media made so much of it that it was bewildering and virtually nobody on the night actually cared never mind noticed she was or wasn't there. If as First Minister McGuinness thinks it's some sort of big deal or going to please anyone to go, then I'd recommend that he doesn't bother. Nobody gives a toss who's in the Director's box. It's usually full of arseholes so one more isn't going to be noticed.

Wouldn't you accept it is an act of leadership?

No. I and the vast many other supporters in the ground couldn't give a fiddlers about him. That goes for Robinson too btw. I see nothing special about either of them attending. Why wouldn't someone from Northern Ireland attend a Northern Ireland match? Leadership indeed.
