Is this because the DUP fear they will loose Glenshane to SF and SE Belfast to Alliance.

I think if Belfast was four seats and expanded outwards more to where former Belfast residents have moved just to the outskirts, then DUP could win 3 Belfast seats. As it is they would win 2 at most and possibly only one. Places like Tullycarnet and Ballybeen are considered East Belfast yet not in the constituency. The populated areas of Castlreagh would also be considered to be in Belfast, as would Rathcoole, Cloghfern, Fernagh. I don't know the DUP thinking on this but it makes sense for this to happen. Similarly west Belfast has expanded outwards and Lagmore etc are in Lisburn even though people there consider themselves to be from West Belfast.

The problem with the commission is that it hasn't taken community identity and belonging into consideration and has just done a numbers grouping and shoved places together to get an electoral quota.

Obviously the DUP isn't opposed to gerrymandering in principle as their past record shows, but only where it might not suit them.

their use of the term gerrymandering is laughable. it doesn't even hold up to scrutiny. this is just another case of unionist lies, propaganda and guilt projection for their past crimes.

Rathcoole already votes for N Belfast. Rathfern, Fernagh, WhiteHouse and Whiteabbey would be S Antrim. They could easly include all of Newtownabbey and Jordanstown into Belfast. Maybe even Lisburn, Belfast could even have 5 seats. But that would really upset a lot of rural seats.....

All parties would gerrymander if they could.
