Unfortunately because you need to be a subscriber to Times Newspapers, I can only post a reference to the link to a story which appeared in the Sunday Times at the weekend and reported that Sammy Wilson and Jeffrey Donaldson had unwittingly been caught up in a bogus scheme, supposedly to convert the Ark Royal aircraft carrier into an aid vessel to tackle disasters around the world, which had been proposed by an American guy, described by US investigators as a "Walter Mitty" character, "without a pot to pee in". Sammy and Jeffrey were reported to be backing the scheme. There is, of course, no suggestion that they realised that this bloke was a total chancer.
I'm surprised that the local broadcast media don't seem to have picked up on the story. I'd like to know if Sammy and Jeffrey have been DUPed..................

Indeed there wasn't much substance to the ST article either. . It is difficult to ascertain from the story how much time Jeffrey and Sammy invested in this guy. There is no suggestion that any money changed hands, although the ST reports that the alleged conman defrauded an unnamed woman out of $130K and spent it on strippers and luxury living. Nothing matches a bit of salacious gossip when it comes to getting a reader's undivided attention! That is why I'm wondering why the local journos haven't been all over the story like a rash, already.

I think the ST article did try to contact JD and Sammy, but only Jeffrey made a statement , and sammy, not surprisingly, couldn't be contacted.

Did they not meet the guy and simply say they'd back it in the House as it sounded a good idea? I read that in the paper on Sunday and couldn't really see the angle the story was getting at regarding the Politicians.
