I didn't know this:
I would've thought continental Europe would have been the key market for NI, there you go. I know from Irish friends still there that the export and multinational-related industries are booming, despite the collpase in the housing and building industry. I suppose this has a knock-on effect up North? The largest single export market is still the Republic of Ireland. It was worth £2.1bn, which is 37% of the total export market.
If you guys can get that fixed (I think the problem is seriously affecting Northern Ireland as well due to NAMA etc.), things are looking much better than is the case for the likes of Spain (22.5 per cent unemployment at the last count).
Love me. Cherish me. I'm a unionist.

NI needs to concentrate more on non-Eurozone countries. We rely too heavily on exporting to the Irish Republic. NAMA does indeed cause problems and NAMA is due to fail pretty soon from what I can make out. The Irish Republic is doing well with FDI companies in place and NI needs to attract more and rebalance away from public sector dependency. I'm not sure what impact NAMA failure will have on the south (FDIs will keep going but what of the rest of the place?) but we shouldn't be so reliant on them for exports and exposed to their risk too. Whether you are a unionist or nationalist this is a priority for NI and should be supported by all.
