Senior unionist MLA McNerry resigns from Ulster Unionist Party

A tweet just in from reputable news source (Newsletter): David McNarry - senior unionist in the UUP party - has resigned with immediate effect.

BREAKING: UUP MLA David McNarry has resigned from the UUP Assembly group"

Can the UUP party afford to lose a senior figure like this? Does this represent a loss for the UUP party?

McNarry has what would be called "a good conceit of himself" and somebody who thinks he merits a key role in every thing he does. However, this move will add to the speculation about Dup outreach to UUP members ,the ambitious ones will jump ship first.

Hard to say. Could be. But most likely will be back after a cooling period. Think Declan O'Loan had similar problem in SDLP when he dared to speak of nationalist unity?

A UUP spokesman has said "neither the Leader nor the Party have received formal notification from David of his resignation.” #McNarrygate

David openly admitted what he was doing, with leadership consent. :
