Eamonn Holmes: Northern Ireland is surrounded by water.

I am reading Newton Emerson's piece in the Irish News. At the London launch of Northern Ireland 2012 Eamonn came out with this gem. Newton's having great Craic with it, ferries from Dundalk etc. Can't get the article on line but it's worth a look.
It reminds me of the weather maps on local TV in the 70's where the rest of Ireland disappeared somewhere into the Atlantic.

Well he's partly right. Just remove northern from Northern Ireland and it's factually correct.

Emerson usually keeps the lightweight stuff like this for his Saturday IR column. His Thursday ones are more weighty. Holmes will wait a while to live this down.

Leave Eamonn alone! He is beyond criticism after "Princess Tippytoes"!

Holmes is moving towards the dreadful "National Treasure" .The old joke was that he lost 20 stone .........when he divorced his first wife.
