Post 183 has been edited to remove offensive remarks regarding another poster .This is my contribution to trying to improve atmosphere on this site .My remarks should not have not invoked his name nor used such inflamatory language.Will try to do better .

Poor poor oppresed folk called taigs and term now equated to "n1gger" by some posters .Ok, what is equivalent for us oppressed Prods, orangie ? jaffa ? hun ? bizarrely ........"black" (used by many republicans to describe Prods in rural areas) , proddie ? orange b is most common .thoughts on what equates to Prods being called " n1ggers" ?
On a side note, most racial abise I ever heard was for one Indian LAD who joined a flute band and the son of a Moroccan /Ulster Prod who marched on the 12th.Seem to really ignite the inner bigot in local republicans. But republicans are never racists or sectarian ,cough !

Although I attended a Catholic secondary and university, I was reared Protestant (Quaker) in a mixed family with exposures to Protestant and Catholic cultures.

I raised the comparison because that's simply how I've viewed it. I just googled the terms 'taig ulster' for video and on the front page here's the kind of remarks I saw without even opening the 'material' of bile, evil, hate filled stuff, e.g.,

I also certainly don't approve of slurs against Protestants for likewise self-evident reasons. I find 'Hun' especially poor given the graveyards of France are filled with Irish who served in WWI and many places there and elsewhere in WWII. It also exhibits a boorish disrespect by ignorant 'nationalists' who not only betray their claimed cause by indulging in sectarian bigotry but even nationalists who answered Redmond's call to serve in WWI to obtain Home Rule and NI nationalists and over 40,000 Free State Irish who directly fought Adolf Hitler and the Nazi scourge in Allied military uniform and far more in a civilian capacity along with Allied assisting Free State servicemen with anti-submarine duties, etc.

As the original declaration of United Irishmen well put it: " ... That no reform is practicable, efficacious, or just, which shall not include Irishmen of every religious persuasion . ... And we do call on, and most earnestly exhort, our countrymen in general to follow our example, and to form similar societies in every quarter of the kingdom for the promotion of constitutional knowledge, the abolition of bigotry in religion and politics, and the equal distribution of the rights of men through all sects and denominations of Irishmen."

Unity and bigotry are antithetical to each other. Sectarian bigots cannot rightly call themselves a nationalist desiring a united Ireland IMO. It's like being an atheist in church.
