Perhaps this cultural and financial loss to Derry would encourage the dissidents to accept the futility of further "armed struggle"
Seems like they were just using the bombings as an easy excuse. It is a pity, the Fleadh really is a great event, wouldn't miss it, and it is a disgrace it hasn't been north of the border yet.

The backwoodsmen have scuppered a good, not a great, weekend in Derry.
These cave dwellers don't give Jack Schidt about the majority of ordinary people who might have liked the event to happen.
They contribute nothing, but like that quisling McFeeley are first to take the shilling if it helps them personally.
These people crawl out from under slates whenever brave people try to better themselves and live life the way it should be lived..
Fhuuuuk them and the stupid bile that spawns them.

Couple points...
i actually think it’s a shame the bid has been turned down; it was a chance for the ‘cockpit of the troubles’ to have truly wide ranging cultural year. The UK city of culture events would presumably would promote all ‘sides’ (and none), the maiden city festival promoting mainly ‘pul/british’ culture and the fleadh promoting mainly ‘cnr/irish’ culture.
I have no insight to the workings of the, Comhaltas Ulster Council so I maybe I am just a backward unionist cynic when I ponder the ‘speed’ of the decision after the recent bombs, given that a few weeks ago the bid was been considered for rejection on the grounds of ‘uk’ city of culture.
