Martin McGuinness reviews position on Queen Elizabeth

BBC News - Martin McGuinness 'still pondering' meeting with Queen

Interesting news item that points to Martin McGuinness stating that he would not rule out meeting Queen Elizabeth. He stated that her visit and how it was done had made an impact on him:

Speaking on the BBC's Inside Politics programme on Sunday, he said he was still pondering the issue.

The Sinn Fein minister said the visit by the Queen to the Irish Republic in May had made an impact on him.
"I've made it clear that the visit of Queen Elizabeth of Britain to the south, was something that we looked at with considerable interest," he said.
"And I think the fact that she was prepared to recognise the importance of the Irish language; that she was prepared to stand in a very dignified way to honour those patriots who struggled in 1916 to bring about a free and independent 32-county Irish Republic, that made an impact upon me.
"So that's an issue that I will ponder and I wouldn't rule anything out."
Such a move is likely to be welcomed by unionists, and could form part of an outreach initiative. Gerry Adams has stated that outreach to uninoists is the most important work that Sinn Féin is doing at the moment on the island.

In a recent poll, Martin McGuinness was one of the ministers that unionists trusted most in the six county executive.

It's an encouraging sign, and another step in SF's (genuine IMO) efforts to engage with the opposit side.

Yes. A peace process involves people "coming out of the trenches" and those who lead others out of trenches deserve to be recognised.

im not sure whether that makes him a traitor or a west brit . So I'll settle for both . The sooner he puckers up for her backside the better in my view. He'll lose the run of himself as usual .

My impression is that factual's efforts to reach out are doing something good for the people of Ireland, while remarks like this above just cause division and harm to the people of Ireland.

Another turning point in sinn feins ideological battlefield, as so-called republicans they shoul refute the Monarch in all its forms for which it represents, archaic aristocratic sectarian institutions have no role to play in a progressive society..

The sooner the working-class people of england realise this the better, The woman beholds that much wealth she dosent know what she is worth...

This will not go down too well with the grassroots, then again sheep do follow...
