I really wonder what is the point of these uniting Ireland conferences. Does anyone know?
Remember that under the peace strategy a United Ireland is to be attained by persuasion - putting out the arguments for a UI.
The mission statement is contained in the stand-alone Uniting Ireland website.

United Ireland conference planned - Local - Derry Journal
Andrew McCartney set out the aims and objectives of the conference, and the series of conferences, as follows:
The organisers have said the intention of the conference is launch a public debate around the idea of a united Ireland and to include as many people as possible.
Writing in today’s ‘Journal,’ Andrew McCartney, chairperson of Derry Sinn Féin, said that he wanted the debate to be challenge for supporters and opponents of re-unification.
“It is our intention to put over one thousand people into the Forum to hear our vision of a new Ireland and how we intend to achieve it.
“The last time we held a conference in the Forum was in 2007 on policing when we set out our strategy and approach to this important subject.
“At that conference we packed the hall and we intend to do so again on another very important subject.
“At a recent Uniting Ireland Conference in Newry two Ulster Unionist MLA’s attended, one of them, John McCallister, was on the platform debating the pros and cons of a United Ireland,” he said.
Mr McCartney also appealed for as many people as possible to attend the event.
“28th January 2012 will allow all those who want to debate the merits or otherwise of a United Ireland the opportunity to do so,” he said.
“I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and take part or to at least listen to the contributions that will be made.”

Why factual can you not make the tiny effort to call the place Londonderry?
The fact that SF can even find themselves capable of that shows just how uninterested they are in an "Inclusive future".
Because it isn't londonderry no one calls it that except for bigots. Its derry everyone calls it that even protestants however the county is londonderry.
"The British presence in Ireland is the cause of the conflict and division. Removing that presence will remove the cause of the problems in Ireland. This is Sinn Féin's objective"
Question for Shinners:If Unionists arent Irish doesnt that justify Partition?
Factual 3rd December 2011.
Why do you need a conference to discuss what you have already decided? You want to "remove" the unionists from NI,we won't go,end of discussion.
Probably worth noting that DUP leader stated at his conference last week that he thought unionists should engage in persuasion.
That i believe shows that SF are light years ahead of the DUP in terms of persuasion (not to mention out reach), having run these conferences when the DUP are only now starting to think about such ideas and strategies.
The UUP and SDLP of course are farther behind in terms of both persuasion and outreach.
