    Last night's Spotlight

I was just wondering what people thought of last night's Spotlight special which focussed on 'Operation Banner' - the deployment of extra British Forces to maintain their presence in Ireland.

Personally, I found it vomit inducing.

It made it very clear who we should all view as the forces of 'law & order' in the North. The permanent British garrison of 5,000 troops is there to protect Britain's interests and, by extension, the new Stormont administration.

Does Sinn Féin condone young Irish people joining the British Army?

Does Sinn Féin condone its members joining the British Army?

How does Sinn Féin see this as furthering the cause of Irish unity?

NI is part of the United Kingdom and will remain so until more than 50% of the people in NI vote to say therwise.. get over it and move on.

I saw it just there now on the web. Self serving twaddle for the most part. The Geordie Squaddie (Bob Parker I think his name was) made a good point about how he had more in common with working class nationalists than with his military 'superiors'.

The BBC were probably balancing their books here after having a documentary look into the most appropriate future of the 6 county economy and a panel of experts deciding that a UI was the best way forward.

To be fair I enjoy Spotlight, watch it most weeks and find it very informative. There will always be episodes like last night which will be unpalatable from a nationalist/republican perspective because after all it is the BBC.
Those who think they know it all upset those of us that do.........

Well actually, no, they decided an all-Ireland economy was the best way forward, the idea of a united Ireland political state wasn't discussed.
