Have seen this before and its well worth a look.
Have to say that I really do fine the title of this Forum - 'Northern Ireland' - very objectionable.
The term 'Northern Ireland' is very insulting to Nationalists and Republicans for very obvious reasons and I wish that it would be changed and not be used on this website!!
Just because you want to call it something else doesn't changed the fact that.Originally Posted by pauline

The word 'politics' is derived from the word 'poly', meaning 'many', and the word 'ticks', meaning 'blood sucking parasites
I would suggest that most of the people who live there or come from there refer to it as Northern Ireland rather than the 'six counties', and that this be respected in the title of this forum.Originally Posted by pauline

Ulster has nine counties; six of which are under Brit rule and three under Irish rule.Originally Posted by pogo
As the six counties under Brit rule are in Ulster and also in NI, and the three under Irish rule are also Ulster and in NI.
Does that mean they are two Ulsters and two norths in Ireland??![]()

Sounds like a good reason to unite Ireland to me - if only to sort that mess out.
I believe the British army were really confused by the border, when they first went to N Ireland - they thought the 'border' was physical, like the Berlin wallthey kept ending up on the republic side. At least that was their excuse
Technically speaking, three of which are under Free State neocolonial rule (sponsored by the Brits).Originally Posted by Helen of Troy

Why is the RoI (what you refer to as the Free State) under neocolonial rule, and how is it sponsored by the BritsOriginally Posted by Risteard

"We (the Irish people) have been denied self-determination by the English." (from SF and Deportations thread)
A little consistency, please.
British or English - make your mind up.
And please tell us what you think qualifies someone to be Irish?
You've been asked before, but ducked an answer.
I genuinely want to know your view.
