    http://entertainment.aol.co.uk/bigstory ... 2209990001

New film out next year on channel 4 about Bobby Sands.

It will be the first feature for Turner Prize-winning artist Steve McQueen, who will co-write and direct the film.

Bobby Sands refused food for 66 days in a protest over political status for republican prisoners in the Maze prison. He was the first of 10 men to die.

Let's hope it doesnt sink into some clap trap about how Sands sacrifice lead the Provos into the British political system. It didnt. Sands died for the Irish Republic - not Stormont Castle.

I have to agree with you on this one Cael. Sands was an extraordinary man. I read a book called Ten Men Dead which gave a fascinating insight into the Hunger Strike and the effect it had around the world.

Written by David Beresford, best book I've ever read.

What victims? Bobby was in jail for possession of fire arms, he was never convicted of any murders. Get your facts straight. Even so, Bobby was a soldier and any operations he may have taken part in were legitimate, not to take away from the dark period that was the troubles.

You cannot create this unnatural balance that didnt exist in the early stages of the troubles where catholics where living in a sectarian "protestant ulster for protestant people" and had been murdered and attacked regularly before any IRA upsurge in violence.
(isnt it strange how the period of the troubles is only measured from when the IRA fought back? )
Even their peaceful civil rights marches were made illegal and that was another excuse for the police to beat 7 colours of poo out of them.

There was no balance, there was british misrule and sectarianism, peaceful protest wasnt even allowed elections were fixed and then after years and years of this crap catholics were left with their last option.

The IRA is a british creation, they couldnt have forced nationalists to take up arms more if they tried.

They were going to do that in the interest of balance but said the show would take too long if, in the interest of balance of course, they were to name the millions of Irish who died at the hands of the British...
A P.ie moderator stated this on June 25th 2010: P.ie tolerates very broad free speech, and thus allows sectarian bigotry etc

A balance would mean putting the unionist "blame it all on the IRA" spin to everything.
Who can look at the 70's and 80's and act blind to what the unionist run state and british government was doing.

Will we put a balance on the famine?
Maybe show a few people starving to death after beating up some jolly good decent brits?
