SDLP choose Ritchie as sole Assembly minister

The SDLP today confirmed Margaret Ritchie will be it’s sole minister on the North's power-sharing executive when it reforms next month.

The South Down Assembly member will take charge of the Department of Social Development. BBC News

Well done to Margaret, a very good and hard working MLA. Will be an asset to the Exec

The reason why richie got the job is becasue McGrady is retiring in 2009/10 and richie is the heir apparent in south down and south down is a target seat for SF but with catrina ruane in education a more senior portfolio it will be interesting

How do you know? You're a FF member from Meath. Your dealings with SDLP are probably restricted to a token canvass during Northern Elections.

Dealings with and knowledge of are two very different things. My knowledge of Margaret Ritchie lead me to believe that she is a very good and hard working MLA just as Dunny has said.
Nowhere did he suggest some sort of insider knowledge or closeness to her or her party. Lighten up.

Both Nationalist parties have screwed up royal. It's time for the Free State parties to operate in the North.

I know people have said it's because it will help them keep the seat, but is it still not strange that Durkan didn't get it? It's seems crazy not giving your leader your one cabinet position.
