Am I missing something here? Four men found with a gun in a car. Surely it is within the law's rights to pull them in.
I am really baffled with how few people here have issues with miscarriages of policing and justice. This is one issue that we should be able to agree upon without regard to whether we're unionists or nationalists. I would have the same concerns if the men arrested were loyalists.
Northern Voice, I don't have a problem with them being questioned or even initially arrested. But to be charged with the crime - I don't see how four men can be charged with possession of one gun. Where do you draw the line there? Let's say they were on a private boat and there were 20 of them, or 30 people in a chartered bus - do you still charge them all? I understand the same would not apply if it's a public vehicle, like a public bus or a publuic train. But assuming it's a private vehicle, when does it become unreasonable to charge the whole boatload/busload/carload of people with possession of a single item? And in recognising that there is ANY limit to the number of people who can be charged with possessing one item, then we accept the obvious truth that what we need to do in order to prove guilt is somehow tie a person to an item beyond his pure proximity (e.g., being in the same car with it) to the item.
The four appeared in court yesterday. I have not seen any details in the press. It is not even clear whereabouts this incident took place.
