    Loyalists succeed in confrontation.

Tomorrow at 4pm in lurgan town centre an extremist loyalist marching band has astonishingly won the right to close the town off tomorrow to march, they only applied last week.

But this is not what has amazed many lurgan residents.
The loyalist band have stated quite clearly that they are not and do not wish to celebrate St.Patricks day!

The most unbelievable part of this march is the fact that these anti-power sharing right wing loyalists have for the first time in many many years been allowed to march in the main nationalist street where all the pubs and the towns main nightclub is situated.

This street will be the centre for all the days St.Patricks day celebrations and will be full of nationalists who simply want to socialise and enjoy the day out.

The loyalist band are obviously trying to stir up a confrontation, they gave the weakest reason for the march that i have ever heard in my life.
The mayors castle has been renovated and they wish to celebrate the renovation by marching through a nationalist area on St.Patricks day.
The large house that has been renovated is part of northern irelands largest urban park, yet they choose to celebrate this 1/4 a mile away in the nationalist area!
They claim it is a mere coinsidence that it happens to be St.Patricks day and they feel their march should get priority as it has

I am absoloutly gobsmacked that this is going ahead,as is everyone else i know it is a complete recipe for disaster and will succeed in destroying what should be an enjoyable day for all those celebrating the day.
People actually laughed when they heard that this band was even trying to attempt to achieve this sectarian march and no-one for 1 second ever believed that it would succeed.

This is disgraceful, many of my protestant friends and work collegues are looking forward to an enjoyable day out for all, and we should all celebrate this together.
This march is completely distroying the much needed cross community celebrations and bringing tension to a place where the two communities could have celebrated together.
Its such a shame that sectarianism gets priority over cross community celebrations and i cannot see this going ahead peacefully when loyaslist marchers and drums come banging into the main nationalist area on St.Patricks day and their pubs and shops etc. are closed off and the town barracaded by landrovers.

The parades commision critisised the lodge yet still let them go ahead?
No dialogue yet again with local residents, as arrogent loyalist marchers do what they like with a full police guard without concent of the people.

    Shocking stuff.

I'd stay outa lurgan until about 6.
There will be no St.Patricks day for us from about 4 - 6 o'clock.

If u had any sence you would jump onto the newry bus in william street (if william street is still there) at 9pm o clock, £7 return and no loyalists guaranteed!

Maybe these idiots need to be taught a lesson.

    Old school style.

Then they will think twice with their childish idiocy.

Is this parade really taking place in a "nationalist area"?

Some of the posters above are calling it a "nationalist area" one minute and "Lurgan town centre" the next.

A town centre is by definition a commercial, rather than residential area. The people on the streets and pubs of a "town centre" on any particular day are presumably representative of the town as a whole?

And as Lurgan have a Unionist majority, would this not imply that the town centre is, if anything, a Unionist (or at least a mixed) area?

Loyalists are just as entitled to celebrate Irelands favourite Englishman, just as much as Republicans.

A disgrace that this sectarian parade is allowed to go ahead. They should be kicked from one end of the street to the other by the lads from Kilwilkie, and before any smart @rse asks would this not be a crime, the beating of such scum is not a crime it is a public service IMHO.

How is celebrating St Pats day sectarian ?

You tried ethically cleansing the Loyalists in the North and you failed.

Face reality they are here to stay, not that its anything to do with some SF supporter in the Republic.
