Cameron promised new, non-sectarian politics. It would therefore be very embarrassing if UCUNF do not stand any candidates from a Catholic background.

I don't know. Perhaps he will just run as UCUNF. Might the SDLP and SF come up with their own mutually beneficial arrangement?
Look to South Belfast or North Belfast to find if they get anything in return. I think you're right though - the DUP do not have the strongest hand at the minute. In which case Paula Bradshaw for South Belfast and Fred Cobain - not a Tory by any means - to stand down in favour of an unknown Conservative in North Belfast
Those Collins rumours have so far been denied. But the Tories are unhappy about Watson, given his record on homophobia and GAA children. I can't help wondering if the UUP nominated him out of pure mischief - in order to get that recently spiked that has been the subject of satire into the open.
BTW it's also rumoured that Collins sought but failed to get the UUP nomination in South Antrim!
I'm very much a guy who believes in the "best man/woman for the job, regardless of religion, race, sexual orientation" thing.
The fact that they have got catholic candidates is a positive step, and they may yet have a few final catholic final candidates. I would prefer Bradshaw over McCann though, just a personal preference.
Maybe, but then they would be hypocrites after the big fuss they made about secretarian headcounts when DUP-UUP joint candidates were flying about.
The DUP will lose votes anyway in SB, its not natural DUP territory. They only got so many votes in 2005 because the IRA wouldn't decommision and unionists were pissed off with that.
North Belfast more likely, Doddsy is looking nervous these days.
There have been many rumours about Collins, I will believe it when I see him with a rosette on to be honest. I can't believe that even the UUP executive could be as stupid as to reject Collins for Watson.
Well aboslutely, but to promise a new beginning - based at least in part on non-sectarianism - and then deliver 18 out of 18 Protestant candidates would be unfortunate to say the least - almost as if there in fact was no new beginning.
Bradshaw would certainly make more sense to me.
Adrian Watson the main story on the Belfast Telegraph website (Saturday)
David Cameron’s Conservative Party could by left blushing after his political allies in Northern Ireland selected a councillor accused of homophobia to stand in the General Election.

Further comment from BT's David Gordon:
Remarks That Give Cameron Headache
I can't fault Watson for tackling an intruder with a baseball bat but his remarks about travellers and homosexuals are questionable to say the least. Then there's the matter of the representations he made to Tesco management in Antrim regarding the children of St Comgalls GAA club who were involved in a fundraising bag-wrap.
Watson clearly represents the kind of divisive 'old' politics which David Cameron promised he was going to change. Indeed when it comes to sectarianism and homophobia one couldn't fit a cigarette paper between the views of Watson and those of his DUP rivals!

If they select some women, a couple of Catholics - practising or non-practising - and avoid selecting any homophobes they will be considered progressive.
Bear in the mind that the North is 99% white and socially conservative.
And anyway, who says that none of our current MPs are gay?
I don't see any of the party's rushing to have Gay candidates in the North, Who are SF running, or from the travelling community, or disabled or .......
