Margaret Ritchie new leader of SDLP

Margaret Ritchie has become the new leader of the SDLP in an announcement just made at SDLP conference.

The six county Housing Minister will speak to BBC reporters shortly. "I am elated" she said.

She will emphasise the shared future agenda.

Is she the right choice? Will she lead them to recovery?

Personally I thought Alistair the better speaker but time will soon tell how she fairs.

She has her work cut out for her! However no doubt her profile as a minister is higher than many of others. She is a hard worker but is that enough?

SO PC Lady makes it to Party Leader

Look - The SDLP are has beens

    - as PSF stole their thunder years ago

Once Gerry and Marty retire from politics the SDLP and SF will merge back into The Nationalist Party

Might be a few years down the road yet but its gonna happen.

Good to see a woman being elected as party leader in Ireland. (Dawn Purvis : PUP, Mary Harney : PDs the others previously)

I wish her well and hope that she puts pressure on Sinn Féin to deliver for Nationalists/Republicans and indeed all of the people of NI.

What about Anne Dickson, leader of the UPNI for 5 years?

I hope that the two woman presently leaders of political parties in Ireland have more success than Anne Dickson. (Good knowledge on your behalf to have heard of her, or is it your age)
