    Final seat tallies

South Antrim now confirmed as DUP hold, West Tyrone all but confirmed as SF anf DUP gains from SDLP and UUP (Deehan 500 behind with half remaining transfers from DUP pile).

As I see it, that makes it.

    DUP 36
    SF 28
    UUP 18
    SDLP 16
    Alliance 7
    Green 1
    PUP 1
    Ind 1

Cabinet will be 4 DUP, 3 SF, 2 UUP, 1 SDLP.

Disastrous election for Unionism, with exactly half the seats only. The DUP throw away seats in North Belfast, South Belfast, West Belfast and South Antrim on ]preventable grounds.

I make it half the seats plus one, unless you're excluding the PUP.

Is this accurate. I would imagine that the DUP may be slightly dissapointed with that. Yesterday they were saying 36 as a minimum. The Stoops will be devastated with this.

Would have been even better with a 50/50 split between nationalists and unionists in cabinet. Those pesky stoops..

Not really true. Apart from the one PUP seat, there's also 7 Alliance seats - and the Alliance vote is overwhelmingly Unionist.

No, a disasterous election for the UUP. It's been a good election for unionism as a whole. In the last Executive Unionists and Nationalists/Republicans were both entitled to 5 ministries. After today it will be 6-4 for Unionistists.

North and South Belfast were just about winnable, West Belfast wasn't even with the increase in vote share because of the SF/IRA vote management. Getting 50% of the seats with under 35% of the vot in South Antrim was never on the cards.

On the other hand the DUP have done the best bit of vote management in any constituency in this election, turning 50% of the votes into 67% of the seats in Strangford. That's a whopping 17% seat bonus, and no once can match that.

In normal circumstances this election-result would be a complete gridlock and there could not be a workable government.

However, as things stand, DUP and SF will have to co-operate and there will have to be a government-agreement by March 26th. Otherwise, the Assembly will be scrapped and the province will be jointly-led from London and Dublin without listening to the local politicians; the so-called plan B, and nobody in NI wants that to happen. DUP and SF will sit around the same table and form a government even though they`d like to kill each other.
