Why are Unionists addicted to failure ?

After years of torturous negotiations culminating in the GFA and later St Andrews an agreement was struck.

In my opinion Unionism certainly did okay out of this agreement. Yet rather than make this situation work they prefer to resort to their default position i.e. failure.

Unionism had a good run for its money after the formation of NI for a good few years. Mind you they blew it and this failed. Since this they have had a catalogue of failures and yet again they are trying to pull failure out of the jaws of progress.

Are they just addicted to failure at this stage. Is this addiction to failure tied to the failure of the British Empire but with some sort of time delay attached.

Are there no Unionist politicians out there willing to step forward and declare that the GFA/ST Andrews agreements were and are the best deal that could be struck at the time and that the best course of action for all of the people of NI is to put these deals into action.

The delaying of the implementation of the GFA/St Andrews by Unionist politicians has become the immature rivalry of young boys trying to out do one another.

Unionism could do with leadership emerging from its political parties that is willing to look at the issues on their merits and not reactionary bluster that does not address the situation as it is.

Policing and Justice is going to be devolved so what is the point of the games that Unionists are playing.

It smacks of some one desperately delaying in the hope that something will turn up to save the day for them.

But at least occasionally every one needs a little love in their lives.

Awk I know that, but the DUP survive on hate, if they let a little Love in they might be more successful, eh?

You might just have discovered the Northern Ireland Solution lol

@ the op, you suggest that unionist parties should look towards their future, but realistically, unionist ideology is incompatible with progression. All they have is the past, the empire, "historic" place names (Londonderry), shops in Belfast not opening till 1pm on Sundays etc. According to voting patterns and demographic patterns, they have no future. Their ideology is blatantly secterian, racist, homophobic and is completely alien to ordinary people(especially young people). On the other hand, Sinn Féin and the SDLP are far more tollerable, they have protestant members, they appoligised for their role in the troubles, they never really officially held secterian ideals, they are anti racist, the support same sex marriage and equality legislation. It's Sinn Fein's flexability and their constant communication with ordinary people (including people in protestant areas) that will eventually make them more popluar with the younger generation (those who are too young to remember the troubles that is)

I do struggle to understand why the DUP are so opposed to devolving Justice. As most people will know, the Unionist originally brought down the Stormont government in the 70s in response to the British taking security powers away from the Unionist government.

I can accept that they wouldn't want a SF Minister for Justice, which is fair enough, but that isn't really on the table anyway.
