TUV Calls Irish a Leprechaun Language

UTV News - TUV sorry for 'leprechaun' remark

The party hit-out at news that Sinn Fein's Minister for Education Caitriona Ruane spent £47,062 on Irish translations.

Its press release on the issue read: "TUV Blast Leprechaun Language Waste."

The TUV's vice chair Keith Harbinson, in whose name the statement was issued, has since apologised and said no offence was intended.

    ---------------------------------------

No surprise from anyone in Northern Ireland that the TUV would be so blatently bigoted, but his slur on the Irish Language was made, with hardly an eyelid batted.
I can't help wondering what the outrage metre would read if Nick Griffin from the BNP made the same remark about the Irish Language.

Silly comment from them, but that aside i would be concerned at the cost of a translation service no one needs. I am not attacking provision for the Irish language, I would like to see it supported and encouraged. But translating documents at great expense is a waste and should be stopped.

It is a sign of their underlying attitude and while they may have a point about money being wasted it is British taxpayers money and if the British insist on paying billions to subsidize unionism they they might as well subsidize spend a few bob on Irish too. They know what to do if it's too expensive.

I am not sure all the translating is the best way to promote the language?

Why do people always have to apologise for saying what they think or believe?

This is just another example of the loss of freedom of speech in western democracies. If some people are so easily offended they need to grow up, in a truly democratic society no one has the right not to be offended.

I am delighted that 'hardly an eyelid was batted'. Why should we get excited every-time some idiot does something stupid? and why should we up their profile by getting upset as if they had made some significant point. Instead we should take the mickey out of them; I propose sending the TUV a paper explaining that the leprechaun people are the descendants of the Tuatha De Danaan who inhabited Ireland long before the Gaels and , therefore, they do not speak Gaeilge which makes his point 'factually' incorrect.

Let's us all email the TUV and ask for translations of 'leprachuan', 'SinnFéin',and 'Caitriona Ruane.' and also ask for a list of all the other Irish words in common usage in the TUV. Make fools of fools.

Maybe we should build more peacewalls with the conjugation of the irregular verbs painted on them.
