The bills have started arriving already. I wonder what people in P.ie think of the double taxation water charges, and whether they intend to pay them or not.
Here's a site aiming to oppose them.

Non-payment is the best way to beat this. Disappointed Sinn Féin in the Six hasn't adopted that position.Originally Posted by JCSkinner
I think its inevitable here. Probably in about 3-5 years. I listened to a report recently that explained how the population explosion on the east coast will put huge strain on the water resources.
There is even talk of bringing it from the Shannon.
Bazinga!
So am I. Is there hope of our future deputy minister and his boys stepping up to the plate on this one?Originally Posted by cain1798
It's a rare issue that the whole Assembly could get behind.

I might be reading this incorrectly, but it appears that the SDLP are opposing water charges.
If that remains their position, and I haven't rang them to find out, then they should make a lot more of that in the forthcoming election campaign, in my opinion.

Every party is opposing the water charges. The argument within Sinn Féin is that the water charges can simply be rejected by a functioning Assembly but many of us have long argued that non-payment is not only more effective, but would provide a real chance for working class unionists and nationalists to work together. Non-payment is also backed by NIPSA, the biggest union in the Six and the 'Northern Ireland' Committee of ICTU.Originally Posted by JCSkinner
Strangely, not one party seems to have made that official party policy, though. I see individual UUP councillors making an issue of it, I see an ambiguous SDLP document, I see Sinn Fein silence, and I see that the DUP actually supported water charges in their 2005 election documentation.
So, let's say I have a vote, and all I care about is which candidate is going to undo this unfair double taxation.
Who do I vote for?

Do a search on Water Charges on our website and you'll find material.Originally Posted by JCSkinner
If your only interest is water charges, vote for the single issue anti-water charges candidates. They've no chance of getting elected anywhere, but you could vote there to register your opposition and transfer elsewhere.
I think bringing water from the Shannon is a great ideaOriginally Posted by hiker
Massive infrastructural project, solve the water crisis on the east coast, drain the shannon all in one.
I bet the Greens will be against it though
1,197 people agree with me.. how many agree with you ?
But let's say I want to vote for someone who will reverse these charges. IE someone who will get elected as one of the main four parties and be in a position to remove them.
Who do I vote for then?
