Ian Óg in copycat publicity stunt.

Ian Óg has made a fanciful claim that an attempt to assassinate him has recently been thwarted and that the state police have contacted him to inform him of this.

"They made me aware of a murder bid and I am satisfied they have been able to foil that by their actions,"
"I am very satisfied with the way the police have dealt with the situation."

PSF representatives and Jim Allister, the leader of the hard-line Traditionalist Unionist Voice party, have also made spurious claims that they have been warned abouts risks to their security..

A state police spokeswoman said the service did not comment on the security of individuals.

She said: "However, if we receive information that a person's life may be at risk, we will inform them accordingly. We never ignore anything which may put an individual at risk."

These laughable acts of attention-seeking are purely political in nature. Allister recently claimed to be under threat so Óg had to up the ante. Anyone can make such a claim as the crown militia policy ensures that the lie won't be exposed.

If only somebody could persuade Óg that the best way to enhance his profile and popularity in advance of an electoral showdown with Allister would be to shoot himself in the head and have it blamed on the chuckies.

It would be cheaper if the PSNI just told the people who had not been threatened. Then they could take umbrage at not-being-worth-it.

There is no way to verify these types of claims and most such as those made by Óg, Allister and Shinners are fictitious publicity stunts.

The joke is that anybody would consider Iany-weeny worth shooting - well, maybe his sister Rhonda might.
