    Margaret Ritchie enters leadership race

BBC NEWS | UK | Northern Ireland | Ritchie to stand for SDLP leader

Flanked by female colleagues, Margaret Ritchie announces her candidature for SDLP leadership.

While the six counties has one party with a female leader (the PUP) it is great to see a woman putting herself forward as leader and I hope she does well.

There are not enough women in six county politics.

For that matter there are not enough gay, asian, or black politicians either.

What do you think Hilary Clinton thought when addressing the MLAs in the six counties yesterday - male, white, middle aged to an overwhelming degree! So I would welcome a female party leader in the six counties.

She probably thought, "Wow this place really needs a black lesbian MLA in a wheelchair."

SDLP not exactly dripping with potential leadership talent.
God be with the days of working class heroes like Fitt and Devlin.

She was too busy trying to extract Sinn Fein's straw from her arse to think about anything

    In her interview she states

    - Margaret Ritchie has >50% of MLAs
    - She claims to have a comprehensive plan for the renewal of the party
    - She claims to have an exciting plan for the renewal of the party.
-Dodges the question of whether she would continue as a leader if a minister.

Once Mary Lou's beard fully forms, we'll be able to read her plans for her leadership campaign
