Show me a modern country that gives priority to a bunch of apes who want to bang war drums infront of eachother, over businesses traffic and civilians right to be able to shop and use their own town at the weekends.

    Who cares about the economy?
There was a fight a field in the 1600's - the priority must be people celebrating this fight.
Abstinence makes the Church grow fondlers.

Or is a previous poster correct and you just wish to erect hurdles on your running/marching track ?

You have been pulled on your need to close down roads which is the main point to your marches/parades/demonstrations.

Prove otherwise. Use a car park. Same results. You get to march/run play flutes, raise money and grade yourselves on how good yous are.
This fills the requirements as you present them.
    Why not do it ?

During the marching season we have what we call marching band competitions. Most bands will hold their own competition in the area that their band originates. They will invite other bands from all over NI, as having a competition with only yourself their would be rather pointless. Various judges are along the parade route and mark the bands on numerous criteria. At the end we have a presentation. Its simple really.

Its what we do and its what we have been doing for many years. Its got nothing to do with offending anyone or celebrating any victory years ago. It seems that Protestant rights in Rasharkin are to be ignored. They have none. They are simply a pain to the other residents. They are to keep under the radar, never to surface or dare express any rights.

The marchers could move heaven and earth and it still wouldn't appease some people. The fact of the matter is that there are those within Nationalism who won't be happy until all marches are banned. So i've explained why bands from outside the area are invited to parade. Perhaps we could find out why people travel many many miles to be offended??
This is new, I saw the Ballymaconnolly band advertise this as a 'band competition' this year but it has never been called that before by the band itself, i hope they're not trying to rewrite history?

How many have been intimidated out of the village? I know of one family who were getting attacked by young uns (eggs at the windows, car scored, etc.) and they got moved by the H/Exec to a house next to a family member in another village but Catholic houses here have been attacked by the same hoods. Another Protestant man (who is prominent in the Loyal Orders) moved to another house in the village but the TV presented the case that he had moved out of the area entirely. In another case a Protestant woman tried to run over a steward during a Republican parade and her family's house was attack - the attack on that house was totally reprehensible and carried out by hoods but the majority of this is down to anti-social behaviour and conflict between certain families.

I know of a handful of these cases but to say this has been going on for 20 odd years is ridicolous, it has stemmed from the anti-social behaviour of the past 2-3 years in the village, the attacks by loyalists on Catholic businesses and properties (including the daubing of 'No Taigs here' on a Catholic woman's house windows) and the DUP whipping up a storm. I remember when a lot of locals were getting their cars hit by snowballs (Catholic and Protestant owned cars) and DUP cllr John Finlay was in the paper the next week talking about ethnic cleansing! Those involved soon grew accustomed to seeing their anti-social behaviour being lit up in neon lights by the DUP in the newspapers and its got worse since.

The Orange Hall attacks are just ridicolous and the grafitti really brings down the look of the village which has improved greatly over the past couple of years.

As for whats put on bonfires what have ballymaconnelly put on their bon fire which has riled the republicans from all over Northern Ireland to come to vent their anger.
The Orange Order sit with Ballymaconnolly band on a new Bands Forum for unionists in the Rasharkin area and they put out a statement about the parade. Given theres a crossover of membership I'd say they're clearly joined at the hip.

The bands dont want the confrontation but they will not shy away from intimidation when giving ballymaconnelly the support that they recieved from them.
The majority of residents oppose the Ballymac parade plain and simple, this was seen at the public meeting held before it. If there is any doubt about this then we could put the whole issue to rest by letting the residents of the village vote on whether they want the parade or not -we all know what the answer will be.
