    Anything on the agenda?

Limerick's been waiting 10 years for bus lanes.

We might see a call for Castletroy/Newtown to be brought into the city. Cormac Hurley is a man with experience of the other side of this who when interviewed lastnight said he was "always in favour" of Caherdavin being brough in.

    Wouldn't change much.

I'm from Caherdavin, and I see no difference since the region was annexed.

What I want is Bus lanes. Surely not too much to ask.

They're kinda limited in what they can do regarding bus lanes as many of the streets are simply too narrow to add a bus lane. The O'Connell Avenue area, for instance, is just too narrow to add a bus lane. There is a bus lane in the clareview area coming in the Ennis road.

I don't think Limerick is suitable for bus lanes. There isn't the road width or bus frequency for bus lanes and existing bus services are already underused. A bit off-point but worth pointing out...

The solution to that is very simple. Buses should have priority. If the road is too narrow for private cars to fit alongside the buslane, ban the cars (except for those with resident permits).

It takes a bus 40-60 minutes to travel the 5km Caherdavin-City Center route during rush hour. Its quicker to walk. That might explain the underuse of buses in Limerick.

With a bus lane, the journey should take 10 minutes.

I have to agree with you regarding Caherdavin seabhcan. Getting from LIT to the city centre is impossible by car. It's hard to see them cutting down on private vehicles, however, and there's no real room for a bus lane that I can see. Maybe from the LIT roundabout to Hassets Cross...maybe. 8/9 FGs in the council though, I can't see them curtailing car use, can you.

Well, on weekend, when traffic is quieter and the buses are pretty much on time, nearly everyone on the buses is waving some sort of social welfare pass at the driver. Car owners just aren't using the buses. Great shame but the car is king in Limerick.
