Moyross citizen worth €171 to county council

    From Limerick Blogger:

It will cost Limerick City Council €171 for every Moyross citizen who it is hoped will be transferred from the juristiction of Limerick County Council to the City Council.

A price tag of €1.2m is being asked for by the county council for the hand over of Moyross and Cahirdavin..

It is hoped that the payments could be made over the next five years to compensate the County Council for the loss of revenue from rates.

Err... the people in that area don't pay rates it is the rates that the county collected from any local business that they are looking for payments for.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

I know Limerick County Council will lose rate income, but surely they'll also lose considerable expenditure. In fact, I'd have though Moyross would be quite a sink on finances. Unless they haven't been putting any money in, which might explain a few things...

There would seem to be no end to the cheek of Limerick County Council. Clare and Limerick County Councils have build shopping centers on every piece of land they can around Limerick City so they can maximise their rate income. Then when they are asked to hand over some of this land to the City Council so a more balanced approach to the development of the city can be put in place they come back with Moyross as the only land they are willing to give up AND they want to be paid to be relieved of the mess they made of it.

If the government had any real balls they would extent the boundary of the city and tell the county councils to lump it.

The funniest thing is that Limerick CC recently built a fancy new headquaters in Raheen. If the border is extended, it will become city property.
