Michael Healy Rae - Bid for Glory

Surprised that this topic hasn't arisen here before now with Michael's high profile in the last week and his celebrated victory in celebrities (sic) go Wild

Whilst I have nothing against the man personally, indeed the bit of the show I did watch, I found him entertaining if a bit of a Kerry cliche and his charity efforts for the dubious People in Need Telethon carnival are to be admired, I couldn't help but think of it as a positioning stunt by him to raise his profile and prepare the way to fill the old mans shoes, either in 4.5 years time or in the event that JHR doesn't last the entire term, to be well placed for the by Election.

Before this Michael was merely a councillor in Kerry, now he is a household name all over the country.

Clery's report a major uplift in cap sales in the past week. Could this herald the end of the over-popular slaphead look?

Obviously, that is what it was but sure isn't that the job of politicians, to keep a high profile for whatever reasons (as long as they're relatively good!).He was also on the Late Late a few weeks back.

MHR does not have a bloody prayer of ever getting elected to Dáil Éireann. There are several resons for this:

    1) Kerry South will be a 2-seater next time around due to the bull being CC. There is no hope of the constituency returning anything but 2FF and 1FG at the next election.

    2) While the Sth Kerry electorate may be willing to elect JHR as a representative, Michael is viewed as ignorant, smug, a smartass and a clown.

    3) The "Healy-Rae" vote has been steadily declining since 2002, with JHR barely and luckily getting elected this year. Imho there is no hope of it rising again.
