    Jackie Healy-Rae

He was on Q&A tonight. What a blithering idiot. How the hell did he ever get elected?

    Anyone like him?

Edited Title: I spelt his name wrong - oops, fixed now

De plain peeeple ov Kurry tink hez GRAEATE.

Massive inbreeding at work, but a cute hoor nonetheless. Look at the footage on that Haughey show on RTE: not much has changed, just that the peasants now have more money [and boy are they spending it].

    Funky hat too.

Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.

Never seen his brother, but his son is hilarious. You'll never believe it, but he has essentially the same hat, except made out of a trendier leather fabric.

Jackie was rambling on about "the family" too. Given his history, you wonder how he gets these ideas.

I dont know too much about him, but from what I know of him, I dont like him. He seems to be one of those TDs that spent decades meeting all of his constituents, fixing them up with something, going to every GAA match and then runs for the Dail and gets elected.
Of course I admire that patience and hard work, but it's not what I look for in a Deputy-I prefer legislative ideas, vision and decidation [to his constituency, not himself!]
Also, I disagree with his politics. He's one of those annoying rural deputies who look down on 'townies' because they havent worked the land, or because they haven't cut turf, and who blame them for a vast 'liberal conspiracy' against them. It's really very annoying.

Yeah his 'conservative rural family' views are rather annoying. That and the fact he's an Independent and completely useless in the dail. I mean what has he done that has benefited me as a Irish citizen? Plus he kept FF/PDs in power in 97, at the expense of all the other constituencies without a hold on the govt of the day.

Especially considering the hypocrisy of his own actions relating to his "conservative family life".

Independent me arse. FF to the core. Just like Johnny Fox in Wicklow, and daughter Mildred after - or the Blaneys in Donegal, though they're a tad different, in that there are/were issues they might vote non-FF on.
Miffed they didn't get the nominations, maybe rightly so even, so ran as so-called indies. The Stroke Fahy in Galway was another.
Damn few voters in any of their constituencies are likely to switch to other parties, and most of their voters would see themselves as staying true to "The Party".
These deputies and others are probably the main reason that FF's actual vote never seems to reflect the (higher) poll ratings at election time - any of their supporters polled would see themselves as within the fold, and answer accordingly.
    Take Beverly Flynn.

    No, no, please, take her....
