Was in the media convoy from tralee to ardfert in 02 when he returned to a hero's welcome. He was shouldered to the stage and 1st thing he said was to plead with people not to drink and drive. I was impressed, to be honest. Silly me. Point is that drink-driving in the west is endemic. Voters didn't give a flying f... about Ferris's close shave on drink driving because it was a case of there but for the grace of god...
