media sales and market share figures 21/08/2009

ok first off apologies for being so vague but i cant find the actual figures released today and im going from memory of what was discussed on newstalks business section at 6.30 this morning ( too fecking early !) with connor brophy and some bloke from TV3 so if ANYONE has a link to the official figures it'd be appreciated.

anyway from what i can remember.

ALL the newpapers are down, with the daily mail being mentioned at a fall of 12%. the only exception seems to be the sunday times which has increased its sales.

as mentioned on another thread gerry ryan has lost market share on 2FM while newstalks breakfast show and eamonn keanes lunchtime show showing a spike in listening . i want to say up 5 thousand listeneres but i was nodding off again at that point. from what i could discern marrion was showing an increase in listerners too though considering rachel english seems to be doing it most of the time now that could be down to her (or aine lawlor, one or the other )

vincenets browns show has LEAPT up in the ratings apparently, at least the TV3 guy gave that impression and he seemed to be very happy with it. considering the late slot thats in its fairly impressive and i have to admit i tune in myself as its great entertainment when it on a roll.

again sorry this is so vague but while i dont have the figures i do think its worth mentioning as theres going to be a ************************* fight over market share now that ad revenue has flatlined and it may be an indication of some changes to come.

How many "sales" were subsidised or free handouts to banks, solicitiors etc.....

€540 saving per annum. Not bad all the same !!

Might bring in an annual fee eventually. Maybe after the two big one`s are re-financed !!

No, it was a bit of a disaster.

But they were amongst the very few major newspapers who were charging. Therefore, users just skipped them and read the Indo, or the Guardian / Times/ NYTimes etc.

The difference this time is that if News Corp does start charging, that's a huge block of the world's major papers, and there is no doubt that many of the others will follow suit. There are already rumours of Guardian.co.uk doing the same

The Irish edition of the British Daily Mail has lost 12% of its sales in last six months. Hardly surprising given the drivel they publish.
