Did anyone see yesterday's shocking Evening Herald front page story relating to how they claimed "Sinn Féin thugs" had attacked a car belonging to "election rival" Esther Uzell. This reeked of blatant lies from the Herald and the Indo in an effort to stoke up their usual anti-Republican bile in advance of elections. They offered an opinion that Sinn Féin sanctioned the attack and their supporters carried it out yet there was absolutely NO evidence offered for this. They had no knowledge of the names of the people who carried out the attack, there was no proof that the attack was in any way "political" or that it had anything to do with the Uzells in relation to Joseph Rafferty's death. It could have been just a wanton act of vandalism against someone's car. They had no quotes from the Gardai about who they thought might have carried out the attack nor were there any suspects named.
It begs questions as to how a National newspaper is allowed to throw mud like this without the slightest shred of proof.
If there was proof of who did it and why then I fully agree with their stance of printing this as a front page story... but to cover the story in the angle they did without any proof at all is an utter disgrace and should be condemned by all shades of political life in this country.
Back in May 2007 they ran a similar headline story on how Esther's sister was attacked in Cuffe Street flats but no charges came of that... ironic that the timing of this previous story also coincided with an Election.
So there's been two attacks that have made headline news, nobody charged and nobody going to be charged even though the Uzells claim they know who carried out these crimes. If they know who carried out both of these "crimes" then surely we can expect charges and sentences??? I mean why go running to a newspaper instead of running to the Gardai and securing convictions?
I can't find the link to the stroy on the Herald website but here it is from the Indo

For those who don't know Esther Uzell is the sister of Joseph Rafferty who was shot dead a number of years ago. The Uzells have consistently tried (but failed) to blame Sinn Féin, and especially Daithi Doolan, for covering up info on her brother's killers. Sinn Féin and Daithi Doolan has constantly denied any knowledge (this has been backed by the Govt) and have always called for anyone with any info to come forward to the Gardai.
