However, native West Corkonians are not giving up. Tonight a new website is to be launced - westcorktoday.com - and its objective is to bring the programme back complete with its very popular presenter. Watch this space!
There is also a meeting in Dunmanway tomorrow night - will try to find details of venue/time etc asap - to discuss the possibility of setting up an alternative broadcasting arrangement for the programme. Young has provided a fantastic service for the community and it is not one that people here want to lose. UTV, the owners of the original programme say that there will be no diminishment in coverage of local issues despite the axing of the programme. This hardly seems credible since the replacement programme is now supposed to cover both the North Cork and West Cork areas. As one former West Cork Today listener and contributor put it 'nobody in Bantry wants to know about the bing arrangements in Buttevant'.
Listening figures are bound to be affected if the programme is not relevant and local advertisers must be wondering if it is worth spending money on advertising goods and services to people who cannot avail of them.
A petition to bring back David Young and the West Cork Today Programme has been set up and you can sign it here:

Does anyone have any good audio clips of David in action?
