'News of the Word' Article a Fabrication - RSF

STATEMENT FROM RICHARD WALSH, PUBLICITY OFFICER, REPUBLICAN SINN FÉIN:

An article in the 'News of the World' on April 5th – “CIRA threat to kill Irish soldiers” – claims that I stated that members of the Free State forces could be killed for helping to search for weapons along the border, and that they should instead join the CIRA.

For the record, at no time was I in contact with the News of the World or their reporter Stephen Breen – or indeed any other journalist – regarding this issue. Nor was any press statement released by myself or Republican Sinn Féin making any such claims. As such, all alleged quotations used within the article are entirely a fabrication.

Furthermore, at no time did I claim to be speaking on behalf of the IRA. Republican Sinn Féin does not have a military wing, nor is it the political wing of any other organisation.

It is interesting to note that reactions were sought from Fine Gael's Charles Flanagan and the Provos' Daithí McKay for something which was never said either publicly or privately.

    ENDS
"I hereby declare that the Continuity Executive and the Continuity Army Council are the lawful Executive and Army Council respectively of the Irish Republican Army, and that the governmental authority, delegated in the Proclamation of 1938, now resides in the Continuity Army Council, and its lawful successors."

    Comdt. General Thomas Maguire

It says something about the credibility of RSF that when given a choice between believing what NOTW says, and RSF says, most people would pick the former.

I'm just posting up a statement which has come into my e-mail inbox.

Well if you know Richard Walsh will you tell him I was at a party last week in Belfast. It was a fancy dress party and a person came dressed as him, after watching his Che Guevara performance on BBC Newsline.

I wonder should I post every statement that comes into my email box? Those ones from the wife of the former president of Nigeria for instance...

I normally operate on the basis that every article in the NotW is a fabrication unless there are photos of ladies involved.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.
