Madam Editor cuts salary by 20%

Hard times in the Irish Times, will these cuts be enough?

Mebbe she should take early retirement and allow the brand reinvigorate (just a thought)

Maybe its symptomatic of the newspaper across the world at the present time. As to whether it'll be enough or not - their beancounters are in the best possible position to judge -any specualtion here is foolhardy in the extreme.

Your comment re Madam retiring probably speaks mroe of your opinion of her and of the Tiems under her stewardship than any serious attempt at answering the original question posed.

Latest news, sport, business, comment and reviews from the Guardian | guardian.co.uk launched a customer/user partnership in open platform this week, excellent utilisation of tech and opensource. l buy El Pais and London Independent for news. l would happily buy lrish if the Madam quit and resources were used, (just an opinion). l would like to see less pedestrian use of print and internet .

Prior to going to subscription the IT was the goto paper online in Ireland, way ahead of everyone else in presentation.

Subscription then destroyed the readership with people discovering like minded Uk sites like the Guardian.co.uk.

So their web strategy has been an expensive mistake, throw in myhome.ie for €50m and you have a black hole of costs that will never be fully recovered.

The quality and the quantity of the investigative reporting and journalism has gone down hill in my opinion over the last 10 years.

It would be a huge shame to lose the Irish Times but they are not helping themselves.

l have pals in Leuven who cut their subscriptions and now only get the Monday for sports. lt is problematic cos we need a good neutral broadsheet. lts my belief that Kennedy is not up to it . (snores)

What is this "good neutral broadsheet" you speak of?

Do you believe Irish society would be better off having the Indo as the only truely national broadsheet paper (apologies to the Examiner but it is a Munster paper) or are referring to the newspaper industry as a whole?
