Very good point UHM! How can they have any idea what its like for ordinarily paid people?

I thought he sounded much mellower than heretofore so possibly he is on the medication already. It was a very soft focus interview which is appropriate for a politician who is near retirement or who is celebrating something but I hardly think that this is the time for the fireside chat.

I imagine it will work on the FF grassroots though and rally them around.

The interview it brought to my mind was Marian's cosy chat with Sean Fitzpatrick. Is an interview with Marian an indication that six months down the line the interviewee will be off the national stage? A bit like a Hello! magazine cover was the kiss of death for celebrity marriages? Certainly if thats as much of a challenge as a person can take, it indicates shaky foundations to their position.

Lisbon has nothing to do with jobs, FDI or any other aspect of our economy. A no vote is a vote for the constitutional status-quo. The recession is global and the property-crash is the fault of Cowen's incompetent handling of the economy. To link the economy to our no vote is to exhonerate Fianna Fáil of responsibility for the mess we are in, and to blame the Irish people instead. Don't give him the satisfaction of believing it. I refuse to be bullied. At a time of recession, the last thing we need is the ECJ dictating asylum policy via the Charter. We shall overcome.

Disband the only political party with the capability of steering Ireland through the world econonic crisis? The same party that had the largest democratic vote in the last general election?

And then what? Get a grip.

You seem to forgot that every major political party supports Lisbon, as do all economic and employer organisations, as do most trade unions and the farmers.

And who's against it? The Shinners who have been proved wrong on every single EU vote and the unelected, secretly funded Libertas?

Get real, anti-Lisbon is simply anti-Irish.

A no vote is against Ireland's interests, it denies a more democratic Europe.

Headlines such as "Ireland says no to Europe", "Ireland rejects EU enlargement", "Ireland turns its back on Europe" in the international papers severely damages this country's reputation in the world and therefore our ability to attract FDI.

You forget that every major political party and all economic and business groups supported Lisbon. So they are all wrong and you are right? At the time of global recession we need to be at the centre of Europe, not rejecting it.

This country is suffering from the combination of a slow down in the property market which coincided with the the worst global economic crisis in the century. Luckily the foresight of FF Minister, Charlie McCreevy, created the National Pension Reserve Fund.
