Tubridy piece on "working class people"

Just when I thought the Tubridy Show couldn't get any more banal, annoying, condescending, or generally rubbish........I happened to listen in this morning.

He had a piece on "working class people", with a big discussion on what they are, what they get up to, how they have changed etc etc. As if this wasn't suspect enough, the people discussing this brought the whole thing down to farce.

Ryan Tubridy - rich brat from Dun Laoighaire, born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Educated at Blackrock College and UCD. Earns €400,000 a year at RTE.

Robert Ballagh - artist, designer and member of "Aosdána", who regularly has his work sold for huge sums at auctions by Sotheby's.

And then two hackneyed and predictable guests: Clare Daly and Eamon Gilmore. All they were missing was Joe Higgins......

It was the most condescending, sanctimonious piece of trash I've heard on RTE for a long while, and an absolute insult to ordinary people who were listening to it, and paying the licence fee for the pleasure. Listen back to it online....

    t'was indeed cringe-inducing stuff.

and to hear politicos talking about union leaders as "working class heros"

    sweet suffering jesus.

proof positive that RTE exists in a paralell dimension to the rest of the country. reality hasnt bothered montrose for decades.

the really annoying this is turgidy is the future of the place. he and his casually bigoted assertions are going to become the norm there eventually as he's "RTE'S type of person" so you can expect clones of the fecker coming down the line.

fear the future guys, project ha ha and its ilk is just the start !

I switched to Tom Dunne on Newstalk just before Christmas. Much better than Turbity for doing the light, update type of show that Turbity fails so miserably at.

Yeah I have to agree, from watching him on the tv and listening to him sometimes on radio, his comments and line of questioning seem to have an bigoted undertone to them.

Another thing I dont like about where RTE are going is in its selection of female presenters/families. Many seem to be either very tomboyish(one particular lady who used to be on podge and rodge has the most irrating false laugh and similar bigoted humour to Tubridy) or completely wooden.

Not to mention RTE have taken a liken to getting 'celebrities' from unrelated fields to present specialist programmes.

Ive taken to watching BBC and now onlt watch RTE the rare occasion when its actually good.

As it turned out Joe Higgins was reserved for Pat Kenny show. Kenny also had Kieran Allen on an earlier segment of his show. Apparently RTE are trying to have ever trot in the country on the radio on the same day. I expect Richard Boyd Barret to pop up on Joe Duffy later.

i think joe near fell off his stool when muir macdowel (it sounded like him anyway) said he agreed with joe on something at one stage!

gas bit of levity to the whole affair.

I enjoy nearly all the talk shows on that station but I can't abide listening to that snob. I too switch to Tom Dunne although he's not really my cup of tea either but at least he is not offensive. Tubridy makes my skin crawl.

Toms......weird. but you can listen to him.

its kinda funny to see how his sense of humour works, he near choked when he was talking to clair and ger earlier on in the week and found out the newest hot shot footballer to be bought by a club was named "ka ka".

he just didnt believe it and kept laughing .

i think newstalk brought him in to specifically take on turgidy and over all its a good move as dunnes fairly inoffensive.

i might get bored by the guy sometimes but he doesnt make me want to assault him with my radio like the other idiot. the only reason i heard the broadcast this morning is because i couldnt get to the radio to change it. . i honestly couldnt see him doing anything as obtuse as the "working class" discussion this morning.
