    The Face of Irish Islamophobia

The disparity between media (mis)representations of Islam and Islam as practised by the vast majority of the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims is well documented. Indeed, Channel 4’s ‘It Shouldn’t Happen to a Muslim’ highlighted the hostility that ordinary Muslims are subject to on a daily basis because of negative media portrayal. Less documented however is the Irish media’s inordinate demonization of its relatively small and innocuous Muslim population.

Is so-called "Islamophobia" defined as an irrational fear of Islam?

Also, by 'Irish media', is this a shorthand for the printed dailies/sundays?

My Islamophobia is no stronger than my Chritianityphobia or my Judaismphobia or my Buddismphobia. A pox on all of them and I'll be goddamed all to hell if I go easier on Muslims just because they are the oppossed peoples de jour.

And as Guy hinted at in post 2, I don't consider my fear/hatred of these ghastly belief systems to be irrational, which is one reason I object to the "phobia" suffix. But whatever. I hate them all and don't really care what that hatred is called.

Muj, you are back and back with a vengeance! Back to embarrass yourself with starting all these whinging braindead threads. No doubt taking a leaf from your coreligionists in England who were offended by a character in Eastenders breaking his fast during ramadan. about your level really. I'd be more worried if I was you about why so many of your people turn to violence instead of debating.

Wow three threads in one hour Muj. Irish medias demonisation of it's Muslim community? Last I checked they scarcely talk about them at all. How did Oscar Wilde put it.... the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about
