Stiff sentence for Punch Charlie Bird

Charlie Bird on the Late Late Show claims his assailant at the Love Ulster march received a two and a half year sentence.

Proper order, but would he have received the same sentence if he had assaulted one of us?

Probably, you don't know how many previous convictions he had etc...

A far more pressing concern, can we jail Charlie instead of sending him to Washington...crimes against travel reporting perhaps?

Who knows, but at least Charlie got justice, and it should be the same for all of us, as we are all Irish citizens and we are all judged by the Irish justice system.

I agree that it should be, but I strongly doubt that it would be.

What? he's off to Washington as RTE correspondent ? You mean he'll be on even more than he is right now? yet another reason to listen and watch any other channel rather than RTE.
I really can't believe the people they think are good.

kenny totally brushed over that but bird wanted to say it, he was saying it was serious and not a joke.

who takes over for him as senior correspondent or whatever he was, david mccullagh, i laugh at his cynicism that drips off him.
What does the Irish President spend their time doing. Work in progress

When is the last time you heard of someone receiving a two and a half year sentence for a similar assault?

I welcome the sentence, but does anyone seriously think it would have been imposed if the victim had been an "ordinary" citizen?

I usually laugh out loud at his reports - David McCullough's that is - I think he's great. Like a colour TV reporter...

Of course, I usually laugh out loud at Charlie's reports as well, but for entirely different reasons.

I've seen someone jailed for three months for failing to pay for a train between Wexford and Gorey. Admittedly, the defendant was already in jail and it was a concurrent sentence, but still...
