    Thank God For Miriam Lord

What a fantastic columnist the Irish Times have, wity, satirical and cutting all in one, to give you an example, the start of her article in today's paper reads:

"Silly old pensioners. They probably thought Brian Cowen was going on the 9 o'Clock news to hoist the white flag. Instead, he hoisted a shovel and began to dig. And he dug, and dug and dug himself further into a hole."

We will all be lesser off if people like Miriam were not writing in the Irish Times.

She speaks the truth, this government is going to fall, it will take some time most of their seats would go at the moment so they will hang in there for a while. they have lost the support of the people and will have to go. Wait until the teachers get stuck in.

My comment was in relation to Ms. Lord's alleged wit.

I'd like to think you're right, but I can't see a slaughter of FF at the polls. It's never happened. The closest shave was the exodus to Spring's Labour, but not in enough numbers as it turned out. Republicans only really move within the FF/independent FF-PD-SF Bermuda Triangle. They're a loyal and forgiving bunch who always wrestle with their consciences and win out in the end. FF dissent will express itself in the the local and Euro elections. They probably will lose the next GE, but only to a coalition of at least 3 parties in a relatively tight result.

Anything else would be a tectonic shift in Irish politics. I don't see any major change in the attitude of Irish people that would suggest such an shift is possible.

It is a perfect storm. FF runs the economy into the ground. It then applies a 1% levy. It then screws up with medical cards and the sons and daughters of those people affected are the people who make up the soft FF vote and may actually contribute to FF. The knives are already been sharpened and the situation is being made painfully clear to the FFer backbenchers at the moment - these backbenchers will lose their seats at the next GE if nothing is done and the FF councillors will be first. Imagine SF's vote being increased by radicalised middle classes in a major protest against the money grubbing incompetence of FF/Harney.

She is right, he is digging a hole for the local elections and FF and the Greens will get stuck in it.

There is some hope for the Greens if they come out completely against it but I think that FF are badly damaged for the Locals.
