Lazy RTE hacks replay US media soundbites

I'm not entirely sure which forum this belongs on but since it's about the practices of RTE hacks then Media would seem to be most appropriate.

Just listened to the start of the 1 o'clock news on RTÉ radio 1. The main news was about the international economic meltdown but specifically the crisis in the US economy. It was about three minutes into the item before the word "America" was used - it was all about the row between Democrats and Republicans but you'd think it was Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael to listen to them. Then there was a clip which consisted almost entirely of soundbites from major US radio and television programmes - the usual Fox News level of buzzwords, loud exclamations and hyped music.

Is there nodody in our national broadcaster who is concerned about this dumbing down of news coverage? The rate they're going they might as well close down the newsroom and just take a direct feed from Fox Radio News - would anybody notice?

it makes them feel like they are part of the greatest show on earth- the journalists equivalent of wearing a football top to the pub when there is a match on. Fairly sad....

George Lee was on Morning Ireland and he was excellent. Absolutely superb, of course he says we're all fcked, but at least behind what he says there's light at the end of the tunnel.

In other words George is telling us that the global economy will still love us in the morning, but that for now it is the long lonely walk of shame home to fix ourselves up so we can face work tomorrow.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

The main feature (after the break) of the "News at One" last Monday was an extensive profile of Henry Paulson, and soundbytes from various US pundits.

I was sitting there thinking..........who in gods name wants to listen to this? Does anyone on this side of the water know who he is? And did they lift the report directly from some US station?
