Just watched it last night and must say I was disappointed. Was looking forward to it and quite interested in the subject so I'm more surprised to say I didn't like it.
The acting was fine and the Che and Fidel characters were great, particularly the guy who played Fidel.
The film dealt only with the Cuban uprising (it barely mentioned the debacle of the initial uprising) and I must say it did glamourise revolution and make it look particularly easy. Che is viewed, apart from his chest infections, to be a flawless hero (flawless heros just don't exist). In one scene, a guerrila is seen firing two heavy rockets from a bazooka and missing twice. Che grabs the weapon, fires once and blows the enemy apart. It may have been factual, but it looked too glossy.
The film cuts back and forward between the Revolution and scenes from Ches appearance at the U.N in New York. In fact a large part of the film, for some reason, is taken up with the U.N addresses. There is no mention of Ches background, his time in Angola or Syria (which would've been more interesting than the dour New York scenes) his post Revolution day in Cuba, or his death in Bolivia. The final urban battle in Santa Clara lasted way too long and wasted a lot of time. Some of the scenes had the air of a Ken Loach movie, which isn't an insult btw, but are not at home in a solo character based story.
I was expecting a biographic type movie, which potentially could have been an epic, but got a pretty forgettable film in which I learned nothing new. Should've been handled by Mel Gibson.
