Who is "Spengler" of the Asia Times?

I've long been impressed by the anonymous author's erudition and eloquence. But who is he? A geopolitics commentator, he's written Europe off as a global player this century, he thinks very ill of US foreign policy, and he admires Putin's hard-headedness. He's convinced that Islam and demography will dictate how this century pans out in terms of war and peace, is convinced Islam can never be moderate, and, whatever about Europe, he says Putin's Russia will not go gently in to that good night. Russia and America are natural allies this century according to him, and a massive Russian showdown with Islam is on the cards. Spengler's articles make compelling reading. I did think he was Samuel Huntington for a while, but I don't anymore. Read his essays here: http://www.atimes.com/atimes/others/spengler.html

The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.

Cheers, TT. You should read his most recent articles. Pretty fascinating stuff.

    Fascinating indeed.

Some 300,000 prostitutes ply the streets of Tehran, or one out of 10 of the city's female population of child-bearing age, [1] according to the most frequently cited sources (see Jihadis and whores Asia Times Online, November 21, 2006.)

Prostitution incorporates such a large proportion of Iran's marriageable females as to accelerate the country's demographic decline, which by 2030 will leave Iran with as high a proportion of pensioners as Western Europe, just as its oil reserves run out. Unlike Norway, which entrusted its oil windfalls to a national trust under professional management, Iran has allowed the political class to steal its patrimony.

He's a clown and a crank. He refers to his own articles to bolster his arguments.
He is a Kevin Myers type.

Well... since the A-Times editorial crew are buddies of mine, well were drinking partners for a few years, I just asked one of them. He replied: "Some American financial bod. I never met him". Narrows it down a little maybe..

I did hear two (unlikely) rumours:

    A: That Spengler is Henry Kissinger;
and B: Spengler is a former member of Lyndon LaRouche's crowd.

Your guess is as good as mine...

Well never heard of him but he's right on one thing staright off:

Demographics are going to be more important than ever.

And for Russia that's not good news unless they adopt that old Beatles number as their new National Anthem:

'Oh, show me round your snow peaked
    mountain way down south
Take me to you daddy's farm
Let me hear you balalaika's ringing out
Come and keep your comrade warm...'
