Fáilte Towers - Patricia McKenna's hissy fit

RTÉ's new reality show, Fáilte Towers, gave viewers an insight into what people in politics have long experienced with Patricia McKenna - her . . . em . . . tendency to throw complete hissy fits over minor issues, and fight like a scalded cat on occasion. The show is based on the premise of requiring a host of 'celebrities' (some of them lets must say belong on the Z list, while most of the rest are on the D list) to run a country hotel, on their own as a team. Patricia had a breakdown over the fact that someone put onions on a dinner when the customer had asked not have any and even when they were taken off she was ranting about it. She lost it, which happens, but it showed her going on and on . . . and on . . . and on all day complaining until at a staff meeting she blew up against the offending staff member, amid shots of everyone else sitting mortified as Patricia let rip about the friggin' onions, almost hissing venom about it.

The woman who she was attacking, said she didn't reply because she could see that McKenna was really really losing it, with 'that look' in her eyes, with she being afraid McKenna was going to physically attack her.

There are plenty of people in the Greens, in the European Parliament, in the Forum on Europe, in campaigns, etc who have had the 'Patricia having a hissy fit' experience. They know that look. If the show did anything it showed to those outside politics just how off-the-wall Patricia can be sometimes, and how when she loses it it can be a scary experience, particularly if you are the one she is losing the head towards (especially if you haven't a clue what you have done to provoke her this time). It is a pity they don't have a few more politicians on it to reveal their temperamental antics. Cowen's legendary grouchiness and temper would have been interesting to show for a start - his staff can be terrified sometimes to bring him bad news. But Patricia's hissy fits are in a league of their own. I guessed she would lose it at some stage - but I didn't think it would be at the start. God help the people in there with her. They will need counselling after 14 days of Patricia!

Maguire's attitude was unprofessional at the start. But McKenna should have been able to move on from it, not return to it with hissy fit Part II hours later when all the staff were assembled to get their rotas for the next day. Simply telling her her new duties was enough to set McKenna off yet again about the damn onions. That, I know from Patricia, is all-too-typical. From experience McKenna will bring up 'the onions incident' all through the programme. She came across as the complete looper she is but which the public don't know about. (I heard from someone who was in college with her that even then she was like that, with even people who agreed with her politics giving her a wide birth.)

You woman. If that's the worst thing about her, I'll take that over the thieves, conmen, and perjurers any day.

Re: Fáilte Towers - Patricia McKenna's hissy fit

In all fairness to Patricia, the editors of the show will no doubt edit footage to make it appear that she was on a rant when in fact she may not have been. I like patricia and to be honest I think that alot of people misjudge her to be an oddity or somewhat loopy, but frankly I believe she isnt like that

You wouldn't need to be that close to politics to have a realised long ago that she is a loon. Surprisingly enough I didn't watch the show so can't really comment on her outburst.

NDS is a partisan FG, Victor-Meldrew-styled, clown. This must be the tenth Patricia McKenna 'attack thread' on p.ie. It really is pathetic at this stage if all you can come up with is McKenna going a bit "Gordon Ramsay" on reality tv.
