What do ye guys think denis O'Brien's approach to running the Irish Independent would be if he ever takes over?
Is he heavily Fianna Fail like Tony O'Reilly?
Had to ask.. after reading the editorial in the independent yesterday

Denis O'Brien is into whatever is good for Denis making money and alledgedly bribing politicians is ok by him, though thats currently being investigated by the Tribunal.
But what can politicians do for media companies?
Sorry if that is a naive question. I can see how it works the other way around though!
Do you have proof of this? The Tribunal has not stated that he did. Reporting this post.Originally Posted by odie1kanobe

The mods must be asleep today. The post was reported first, hours ago.

Still any insights on what's in it for them (Media companies) by getting cosy with politicians??
Another thing I got to wonder about- what is Tony O'Reilly's percentage of ownership in the paper?
im not actually sure as he seems to be hands off at newstalk though i dont know how the guy operates in terms of his business's . TOR for instance has no problem putting the fist down on the indo when it comes to stories relating to his business practices, just look at the stony silence from the indo and the herald when covering the irish ferries affair a few years back, and you can be sure he'll take every opertuninty to smear the people of mayo in regards to the shell to sea people and their like who are apparently militant SF nutters in IN&Ms eyes which of course has nothing to do with sir antos involvement in liscening the drilling rights to the blocks of land he owns the rights to off the erris penincula.Originally Posted by eanach1
end of the day dennis, like tony, are businees men and theyll do whats best for them.
EDIT. just seen the post above. whats in it for them is lots and lots of moola thanks to leglislation said politicians enact on their behalf. think of it as getting a planning permission on an industrial scale . techincally speaking the media companes get nothing out of it but the OWNERS of the companies most certainly do and he who pays the piper calls the tune .![]()
His stake in I N & M is close to 30%, including related family. I think he may have special voting rights connected to some of those shares. He controls the company with his son, Gavin. His exact stake is irrelevant.Originally Posted by eanach1
