    Leo Enright and Astronomy Ireland.

"Look" says Leo on the radio this morning, "I'l explain it simply. The universe is like a creamy pint of stout. Everything we know , can measure and and can see is contained in the white, creamy head. The rest, of which we know absolutly nothing about, is called Dark Matter"

Give this man his own TV show on Irish astronomy and Science. He is a master of simple explanation, enthusiastic, intelligent (he actually knows what he is talking about).

COME ON RTE. GIVE THIS MAN HIS OWN ASTRONOMY AND SCIENCE TV SHOW.

The time has come to popularise this stuff and this is the man to do it.

Finally, a scientific explanation I can understand, and I might just dive into a bit of dark matter tonight.

Yeah line them up there and we'll explain parallel universes.
Hit the clubs later and with any luck we can recreate the big bang.

I remember in the 80s he used to be RTE's man on the ground at NASAs space centre in cape canaveral in Florida for the early space shuttle missions - not the worse place to be sent to for work.

I reckon there is probably one TV series of top qulity science for the everyman. I would love to see RTE do this using Leo Enright. As a child, I would beg my parents to let me stay up late to watch BBC2, the Sky at Night presented by, what I can only describe as, the nutty professor, Patrick Stewart. It was great TV, fascinating to watch AND learn.

My kids are learning their pop science from Brainiacs. I've seen it a few times and its a good laugh but not very educational (except if you're studying anatomy and big busty blonde comes on.....no,J, dont go there)

Completely with you on this Hiker, always loved science and in particular, astronomy and physics. Shame I listened to the octogenarian 'careers guidance councillor' in school who told me that such pursuits are a waste of time and I'd starve for want of a job in Ireland. Damn shame, but my own fault really, was good at maths and physics in the leaving and got good (honours) grades too.

As for 'brainiac'', watched it once, what a pile of sh*t. So what if you can walk across a pool of custard, who actually cares? Typical brain dead, idiot culture Sky One TV.

Mythbusters is the only pop science show worth watching (that I know of anyway) although more for the entertainment value. I also remember Patrick Stewart on the Sky at Night, he had me enthralled with his enthusiasm and boundless energy on the subject at hand. I cant see RTE doing anything original that they dont have to as they would much prefer to show cheap, clip shows like the comedy one last night. Its a pity they didnt point out their massive lack of support for (decent) comedy in Ireland over the years.

Leo Enright is a joy to listen though, its great to see someone loving their job.
If I could mass-sterilise the planet, I would. Seriously.

You must mean Patrick Moore. I was a big fan of his programme, even after he made those infamous
    comments about women presenters.
