And in 1978 when RTE started, everyone got the benefit of the Ned Stapleton Cumman's communist love affair with an almost interminable series on World War 2 from a Soviet propaganda viewpoint. I'm just surprised that nobody decided to invade RTE and demand better programming. But cable television saved things. Even with only BBC1/2/HTV (The Welsh ITV), there was a lot more to watch.
