popular irish news site "indymedia" down, hacking suspected.

Users of the popular news site ostensibly a member of the global progressive media organisation "Indymedia" and as such dedicated to "open publishing" were surprised to see an appeal for support of a fellow indymedia collective and site in Antwerp, which is being sued and threatened with closure, removed by the moderators on the Irish site.

They were even more suprised when promptly thereafter the Irish site went offline. Users and fans of "politics.ie" might remember the report entitled "Popular Irish Politics Discussion Board Offline- Hacking Suspected" which the temporary unavailability of this site provoked. - ( http://www.indymedia.ie/article/86559 ) So it is only "fair game" considering the mixture of comments that thread provoked for users to ponder the apparent fate of "Indymedia Ireland" now.

Those more familiar with that site will have noticed internal bickering of late which resulted in long term contributors being blocked amidst accusations of systematic degradation of certain contributors which worked in tandem with the systematic promotion of others close to the editorial teams.

Those familiar with the global umbrella network of Indymedia sites will know that the Irish node has pushed a formula of "open publishing" as far as it can go, whilst creating a site which fluctuates between being at times interesting to often a quite appalling discredit to the leftwing, the team at the heart of the "Indymedia support group" club who have administered the node have ignored objections and complaints from their own peers on the global network.

Indeed, even if hackers are not responsible for this temporary unavailability of "indymedia ireland", it is certain that the divisions within the contributors and moderators of the site are bound to become ever more public.

A new group has been formed to set up new indymedia _sites_ in Ireland "true to the spirit of non-heirarchial, progressive media collectives operating open publishing systems under the global banner of indymedia".

One would imagine that it off-line due to the infamatory or, in fact, somewhat idiotic posting which goes on. Did someone grow balls and actually sue them?

Unlike the temporary closure of P.ie, this aqctually does look like a hacking incident. Late last night, one got the message "connecting to Indymedia" when one attempted to go to the site. Now all you get from your browser is "looking for Indymedia." Classic denial of service attack in my non-expert opinion. Done at a time to maximise on the effect - the May Day weekend, when most anarchists etc. have other things on their minds than the internet. Another clue that supports the hacking theory is that Indy.ie is distributed over more than one server (if memory serves correct). In other words, if a glitch knocked out a server, it wouldn't prevent access to the site.

Indy has been going to the dogs, and of late moreso.

If a site has an editorial that is not aware of current rights laws with regard
to gender/disbaility, it is hardly 'popular'. I would urge those with an
interest in collectivism to be aware that pretensions to publish and lead
on issues of great sensitivity to some are treated in a manner that does not
require three weeks of 'voting' and debate.

Labyrinthe tech development and and structures designed to cover utter
incompetence is a hallmark of establishment politics- the type that keeps
ordinary people away from decision-making through utter disgust and
    inertia.

Indymedia.ie ,under the Feeney bunch was part of a global network and not
a personal franchise wholly subjected to the educational and literary
    pretensions of a seeming elite.

Lets hope that when a new IMC is established that the first
    hurdle is overcome: self-importance .

I'm against hacking but good riddance. It's a biased, far left rag that censors everyone who disagrees with the party line.

I can't support hacking but they are no loss.

It wasn't me BTW - I've got an alibi!

Funny but the people they banned, censored and side-lined were mostly women.
That always interests me- is it the old pirate adage:

'Women on board will sink the ship'?

Guess what many women found the dry-s**** writing of middle-class boys
pretending to anarchists intolerable. Community focus means representational
    editorial boards.

Christ, going by some of the posts above the Indymedia crew have started to migrate over here. P.ie will never be the same again.

The editorial stasi would like to take this opportunity to deny the totally unfounded rumour that this interruption of services is an "inside job" "false-flag" hacking incident intended to transfer some of our more "free thinking", not to mention 'imaginative' posters to politics.ie.

Tractor production has again exceeded quotas.
