Who is Brian Cowen?

Since he is about to take on the mantel of Uachtarán Fhianna Fáil we need to know.. who is Brain Cowen?

Where is he on the left/right economic debate?
Is he on the soft republican side in Fianna Fáil or does he care about the national question?
Is he liberal or conservative?
Or will he try to straddle every angle like his predecessor?

Despite being in the public eye is it not strange that so little is known about him?
