    Idiotmedia's coverage of Politics.ie blackout

Popular Irish Politics Discussion Board Offline- Hacking Suspected

Those fools at idiotmedia were obviously delighted at politics.ie's unfortunate situation and took a number of swipes at this sites members and Great Leader, David Cochrane:

It's even being claimed that partners of the predominantly male users of the site are receiving more attention than usual, although talk of a "politics.ie blackout baby boom" might somewhat premature.
The owner of the site, Mr. David Cochrane, runs it in a whimsical fashion, banning users and moderating according to his own views.
The site is enormously popular, and has many devoted users. A recent real-world meet up in a bar in County Dublin attracted more than a hundred people. Some users, however, have been less than happy with the site, with many arguments raging about treatment of discussions on immigration issues, gay rights, the Mahon tribunal, etc. A longtime technical manager of politics.ie left recently, and there have been fierce rows about bullying and underhand tactics in moderation.
Many political parties (notably the Greens) use the site to leak information, and others use the anonymity of the bulletin board forum to plant rumours and smear opponents.
I tried to post on that thread (a number of times) sarcastically contrasting the, eh, 'different' moderation styles of politics.ie and the idiotmedia 'collective': basically I called them Stalinist in their approach to free debate. Needless to say, any such post was deleted. Quickly.

Idiotmedia is an abomination: the 'collective' quite obviously resent the very existence of forum such as politics.ie, were issues are discussed with considerably more candor. If free-speech in the wider world was rather like idiotmedia, then those so-called 'antifascist' middle-class boneheads that prevented David Irving to speak would turn Ireland into something that resembles East Germany that-was.

Is there any site that monitors or comments on Idiotmedia? Like 'Indymedia-watch', or something? People like 'Chekov' Feeny and his 'Collective' need to be brought to account for this abomination of free-speech on the internet.

Another poster (called ' I-spy') suggested:

re: the possible hacking of Politics.ie .

    ubiquitous posters = ubiquitous spooks?

    the inner circle= intelligence circle?
These people are so paranoid, it's pathetic

Does anyone know if that 'Squeak' Feeney balloon who went under the M3 for a day in a tunnel is related to Chekov?

I have discussed issues with Chekov Feeney online-he's a good bloke.

And fair play to "Squeak" for trying to save Tara from the money-grubbers.

I know Chekov personally. And I support the diversion of the M3 away from Tara. But I'm interested in knowing if the eejit who nearly brought a rath down around her own head is related to him or not.

It's...sinister. Sheer censorship and makes a mockery of real debate. Nothing can be discussed honestly. I really resent the 'indy'-media moniker, independent of what? It's just a far-left propaganda site, they have some cheek to whinge about smears and anonymity.

Honestly, what is there to like or respect about idiotmedia? What redeeming features does it have?

He's not though- while the 'Afghan Hunger-strikers' controversy was being discussed on this site, he smeared a poster that was present as having assaulted a female demonstrator. Whether the assault occurred or not in the first instance was a matter of debate in itself.

Well, hardly any immigrant-bashers post there, which is good.

Chekov explained some of Indymedia's policies here:

... Indymedia’s goals, as expressed in the editorial policy, are very different from that of bulletin boards. We primarily try to be a platform to allow under-represented groups and campaigns disseminate their news, not a community-oriented debating site.

I consider my relatives to be protest cannon fodder - useful for sending down holes and so on. First, I have to give them enough drugs though.
